Tiếng ViệtBrilliant Green Bile Broth is used with the MPN method to detect E. coli and other fecal coliforms in water, milk, food and other material. Bile salts and brilliant green in the medium inhibit Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria (other than coliforms) respectively.
Production of gas from lactose fermentation is detected by the inverted Durham tube and indicates a positive test for fecal coliforms. While non-fecal coliform bacteria also grow in this medium, most do not produce any gas. Incubation at elevated temperatures (typically 44.5-45.5°C) enhances selectivity for fecal coliforms, which are thermotolerant.
