Dimethyl sulfoxide

General description
Dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) is an aprotic solvent. Therapeutic and toxic molecules that are not soluble in water are often soluble in DMSO. Liquid nitrogen used in conjunction with a cryoprotective agent such as DMSO is a widely used method for preserving cells. DMSO is used to prepare stock solutions of various molecules and is also used as a control for these molecules. It has been used in cell migration assay for dissolving post-migration cells. BPC-tested DMSO also meets the requirements of biotechnology and tissue engineering applications.
Application
Dimethyl sulfoxide has been used as a vehicle control to culture and induce hepatic stellate cells (HSCs) activation in vivo.[1][1] It has also been used to prepare a stock solution to study the cytotoxicity of ferulic acid (FA) on nucleus pulposus (NP) cells.[2] Features and Benefits
