General description
Ethylmalonic acid (EMA) is a branched fatty acid. It is a urinary organic acid, used as an important biochemical indicator of abnormal metabolism created by various diseases.[1][2][1]
Application
Ethylmalonic acid may be used as an analytical reference standard for the quantification of the analyte in the following:
Human biological fluids using liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (LC-MS).[3]
Urine samples of uterine myoma and uterine cervical cancer patients using gas chromatography and gas chromatography–mass spectrometry.[2]
It may be used as an analytical standard to investigate its role in the inhibition of succinate and malate transport through the mitochondrial membranes in rats.[1]
