Folic acid, a water-soluble B vitamin, is available in several food products. As it is not generated in the human body, diet is one of the easiest ways to obtain it. It plays a crucial role in the biochemical synthesis and repair of DNA and is used in the management of megaloblastic anemias, neural tube defects such as anencephaly and spina bifida.
