This compound can assist in the preparation of samples for analysis of metals by reducing metal ions to their elemental state or to a lower oxidation state, making them detectable with common lab chemistries.
Hydroxylamine hydrochloride is used in Total Hardness Method 8329 to eliminate manganese interference.
