Lactoferrin (from bovine milk)

General description
Lactoferrin is a multifunctional glycoprotein that belongs to the transferrin family of proteins. It is mostly found in the mucosal secretions of mammals, such as tears, saliva, and bile but is abundantly present in milk.
Lactoferrin, a wonder molecule, holds significant importance in promoting health and managing pathology throughout all stages of life. This iron binding milk protein also helps to balance iron levels in the body.[1] Lactoferrin (from bovine milk) is a certified reference material. The certified property value is linked to National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) through calibration verification achieved using weights traceable to NIST standards.
Application
This full-length protein CRM is suitable as starting material for use in calibrators or controls for a variety of LC-MS/MS testing applications including allergen testing, infant formula testing, dietary or nutritional and diagnostic testing application.The CRM can also be used as follows:

Quantitative analysis of bovine lactoferrin in sterilized milk, modified milk, fermented milk, infant formula, adult formula, rice cereal, vitamin function drink, and protein powder samples by HPLC coupled with diode array detection (DAD)
Development and validation of a liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) based assay for the measurement of bovine lactoferrin in infant formulae samples

Preparation Note

The material is hygroscopic, so minimize moisture exposure during weighing.
A minimum sample size of 20 mg is recommended for quantitative applications.
If a smaller sample size is used, increase the uncertainty by a factor of 2.
