Lithium chloride may be used as a salt precursor for the preparation of stock solution of lithium for the determination of lithium ions in environmental water samples by ion chromatography equipped with a high-capacity cation-exchange column.[1] It may be used to generate lithium adducts of neutral carbohydrates present in food and beverage samples[2] and plants[3] so as to increase the sensitivity of detection for quadrupole mass spectrometry analysis (MS) with electrospray ionization (ESI) post their separation using anion exchange chromatography.
