Menadione may be used as an EP reference standard for the determination of the analyte in pharmaceutical formulations by chromatography[1] and spectrophotometry[2][3] techniques.

Menadione, a fat-soluble vitamin, is an antihemorrhagic compound that plays an important role in blood coagulation. It takes part in blood clotting by activating prothrombin, the thrombin precursor.[4][1]
