Meropenem has been used as a reference standard in an experiment conducted to investigate the effects on in vivo efficacy caused due to chemical differences in three generic products of meropenem.[1] Meropenem penetrates cell walls and binds to penicillin-binding protein targets. It acts against aerobes and anaerobes including E. coli, Klebsiella, Clostridium, Enterococcus sp. It is a common cause of mild transient aminotransferase elevations and can rarely result in clinically apparent, cholestatic liver injury.
