Sulfolane may be used as an analytical reference standard for the quantification of the analyte in groundwater samples using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry technique.[1] General description
Sulfolane is an aprotic polar solvent[2], used in the separation of aromatic hydrocarbons from aliphatic hydrocarbons.[3] Sulfolane is widely used in combination with diisopropanolamine in the sulfinol process of removal of toxic levels of hydrogen sulfide and carbonyl sulfide from raw natural gas condensate.[1] It is also used as an industrial solvent for photographic chemicals, polymer, and petrochemical industries.[4]
