Mustard is a condiment made from the seeds of the mustard plant. Oriental mustard, also known as Chinese mustard or Jie Cai/Gai Choy (Sisymbrium orientale), is another member of the mustard family, as is wasabi (Eutrema japonicum).

Mustard allergy can manifest with a variety of symptoms, ranging from mild oral allergic reactions or urticaria to severe, life-threatening systemic reactions, namely anaphylaxis or bronchial asthma. Mustard allergy is one of the major food allergies in certain geographical regions, although no estimate of its global prevalence is available.
