in cell proliferation assay (MTT assay)[2]
in chemosensitivity assay[3]
as the vehicle control in all experiments like apoptosis assay[4]
in ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylation (EROD) assay[5]
Biochem/physiol Actions
DMSO (dimethyl sulfoxide), an organic solvent possesses several pharmaceutical activities such as analgesic, diuretic, bacteriostatic, membrane-penetrant, anti-inflammatory, vasodilatory and cholinesterase inhibitory effects.[6] It is a by-product of the lumber industry and used as an industrial solvent. DMSO also serves as a therapeutic agent to treat interstitial cystitis and arthritis.[7]
