Application
Menadione sodium bisulfite has been used:
as a free radical inducer to study its effects on oxidative stress in sunflower seedlings
as a positive control to produce mitochondrial O2 during the measurement of O2 in human proximal tubular cell lines
as a redox-cycling mitochondrial pro-oxidant to study its effects on protein kinase B (AKT) and mechanistic target of rapamycin (mTOR) signaling in cardiac cells
Biochem/physiol Actions
Menadione sodium bisulfite (MSB) is a derivative of vitamin K3 and has been studied in the treatment of hemorrhagic diseases like hypoprothrombinemia and neonatal hemorrhage, caused due to vitamin K3 deficiency. It is also considered a nutritional supplement for animals. MSB shows anticancer effects. It also protects plants from biotic and abiotic stress.
Other Notes
Water soluble vitamin K3.
