Phosphatidylcholine is a phospholipid comprising a choline head group and is associated with organelle membrane and cytomembrane.[1] Application
L-α-Phosphatidylcholine has been used in phospholipid solid phase enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) to test its interaction with Factor VIII variants (N0 and N6).[2] It has also been used in the synthesis of phosphatidylcholine hydroperoxide (PCOOH) substrate for the glutathione peroxidase (GPx4) assay.[3] Biochem/physiol Actions
A major structural phospholipid in brain, comprising approx. 15% of total lipid; primarily localized to gray matter.
Phosphatidylcholine is essential for acetylcholine synthesis[4] and is crucial for very-low-density lipoprotein secretion in hepatocytes.[5] The pathophysiology of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) displays a variation in the hepatic PC to phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) ratio.[5] PC alleviates inflammation in ulcerative colitis (UC)[6] and its administration is effective for treating benign symmetric lipomatosis.[7] Preparation Note
