N-(2-Chloro-4-pyridyl)-N′-phenylurea

Application
N-(2-Chloro-4-pyridyl)-N′-phenylurea has been used as a supplement in Murashige and Tucker medium (MT) to culture thin cell layer (TCL) explants.[1] It has also been used to spray on to the ovaries at anthesis for induction of parthenocarpic fruit.[2] Forchlorfenuron (CPPU) is a cytokinin that enhances in vitro direct shoot organogenesis of Citrus aurantium L. epicotyl segments.
Biochem/physiol Actions
N-(2-Chloro-4-pyridyl)-N′-phenylurea/ CPPU, a cytokinin-like plant growth regulator participates in chlorophyll biosynthesis, cell division and cell expansion. It helps to intensify fruit set and quickens fruit enlargement. CPPU modulates carbohydrate allocation.[3] CPPU is a cytokinin oxidase/dehydrogenase (CKO) inhibitor.
