General description
Platelet factor-4 (PF-4) is a CXC chemokine that is expressed in megakaryocytes and stored in the alpha-granules of platelets.[1] The gene encoding this protein is localized on human chromosome 4.[2] Recombinant human PF-4 is a 7.8kDa protein containing 70 amino acid residues, including the four highly conserved residues present in CXC chemokines.
Biochem/physiol Actions
Platelet factor-4 (PF-4) is chemotactic towards neutrophils and monocytes and has been shown to inhibit angiogenesis.[3] This protein associates with heparin and neutralizes it. It also neutralizes various negatively charged proteoglycans.[4] Physical form
Lyophilized with no additives.
Preparation Note
Centrifuge the vial prior to opening. Reconstitute in water to a concentration of 0.1-1.0 mg/ml. Do not vortex. This solution can be stored at 2-8°C for up to 1 week. For extended storage, it is recommended to further dilute in a buffer containing a carrier protein (example 0.1% BSA) and store in working aliquots at -20°C to -80°C.
