Platelet-Derived Growth Factor-BB from rat has been used as a growth supplement in mouse embryonic fibroblast culture, motoneuron-muscle co-culture and adult spinal cord neurons culture.[4][3] Biochem/physiol Actions
Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) elicits multifunctional actions with a variety of cells. It is mitogenic to mesoderm-derived cells, such as dermal and tendon fibroblasts, vascular smooth muscle cells, glial cells, and chondrocytes.[5] PDGF is a potent chemoattractant and activator of neutrophils, monocytes, and fibroblasts.[6] PDGF activates smooth muscle relocalization and multiplication. PDGF mediated increased smooth muscle muscle proliferation might be associated with gene regulation.[7] It increases the synthesis of phospholipids, cholesterol esters, glycogen and prostaglandins, and modulates LDL (low density lipoprotein) receptor binding.
Physical form
Lyophilized from a 0.2 μm filtered solution in 30% acetonitrile and 0.1% trifluoroacetic acid containing 2.5 mg bovine serum albumin.
Analysis Note
The biological activity is measured by its ability to stimulate 3H-thymidine incorporation in quiescent NR6R-3T3 fibroblasts.
