Nicotinic acid

General description
Nicotinic acid acts as an antilipolytic drug in adipose tissue, and is commonly used for hyperlipoproteinaemia and pellagra.[1] Nicotinic acid is a water soluble[2], vitamin belonging to B complex group of vitamins[3], which can be used as a broad spectrum lipid lowering drug.[4] Its mode of action basically involves the inhibition of the hormone-sensitive triglyceride lipase and thereby, decreasing the lipolysis in adipose tissue.[3][4] Application
Nicotinic acid may be used as an analytical reference standard for the quantification of the analyte in tablet dosage forms using reversed-phase high-performance liquid chromatography technique.[1] Refer to the product′s Certificate of Analysis for more information on a suitable instrument technique.
