General description
Dulbecco′s Modified Eagle′s medium (DME) is a modification of Basal Medium Eagle (BME), which has a four-fold higher concentration of amino acids and vitamins along with additional supplementary components. The first original DME formula was reported to culture embryonic mouse cells comprising 1,000 mg/L of glucose. An alteration with 4,500 mg/L glucose is optimal in cultivating certain cell types. DME has been shown to improve the stability of the medium.
Application
Dulbecco′s Modified Eagle′s medium-low glucose has been used to culture:
living colon cancer SW620 cells[1]
human breast carcinoma cell lines MCF-7(13), KPL and MDA-MB-231[2]
mammal and canine derived adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells[2]
Preparation Note
Supplement with 0.584 g/L L-glutamine.
Other Notes
Investigators who work with stem cells or cell clones frequently prefer media without phenol red.
