Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF), a cationic polypeptide, is an important serum mitogen predominantly found in cells of mesenchymal origin.[1][2] PDGF is mapped to human chromosome 7p22.3 and is expressed in smooth muscle cells, endothelial cells and macrophages.[3][2] PDGF exists as hetero and homodimers : PDGF-AB FDGF-AA, PDGF-BB, PDGF-CC and PDGF-DD.[4] Application

Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) is a potent chemoattractant and activator of neutrophils, monocytes, and fibroblasts.[6] PDGF elicits multifunctional actions in a variety of cells. It is mitogenic to mesoderm-derived cells, such as dermal and tendon fibroblasts, vascular smooth muscle cells, glial cells and chondrocytes.[4][7] PDGF-BB isomer is highly expressed in tumor, mediating oncogenic pericyte recruitment and is is a key regulator of angiogenesis.[4] PDGF-BB controls bone homeostasis, repair and regeneration.[8] It increases the synthesis of phospholipids, cholesterol esters, glycogen and prostaglandins and modulates LDL receptor binding.

Analysis Note
The biological activity is measured by the dose-dependent stimulation of thymidine uptake in BALB/c 3T3 cells.
